Books you NEED to read
With the weather getting colder and the nights getting darker, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good book and hot drink. Not only does it just sound like a comforting idea but research suggests that reading for just 30 minutes a week increases overall health and wellbeing.
Reading for fun (no, Twitter doesn’t count) has been found to improve your confidence and self-esteem, it provides grounding and can also aid our sleep and reduce feelings of loneliness. Studies show that it can increase our emotional intelligence as we understand a range of perspectives and motivations.
Reading can be a form of therapy.
We’ve put together a list of some books that we LOVE and make us feel empowered, happy and engrossed.
Women don’t owe you pretty
A London-based artist and writer, Florence addresses social issues with a unique and playful take. Her book confronts oppressive attitudes towards women and their bodies, and discusses issues surrounding sexuality, consent, race and gender. If that isn’t enough to make you want to read, her illustrations throughout are just as memorising as her words.
Eat Pray Love
Eat, Pray, Love is about One Woman's Search for everything as she leaves her life behind and travels across Italy, India and Indonesia. Her memoir explores her growth from loneliness to independence, and how she discovers to live life to her fullest.
The Happiness Project
Just as it sounds. This book is about how one woman made it mission to attempt to discover what leads to true happiness. The year-long experiment is written blog style and will have you smiling from the first page.
This Book Will Save Your Life
This Book Will Save Your Life reveals what can happen if you are willing to open yourself up to the world around you. Dark humour, paired with some life changing advice this book is all about compassion and transformation.
Make it happen
All about manifestation. A warm, witty and practical book, Jordanna shares her personal experiences and struggles along with her foolproof equation for manifesting whatever you desire, from your dream job to a lasting relationship.
Happiness is not something you are born with, it’s a skill you can learn. You have to work at it and Fearne Cotton shows you what things you need to do and focus on that will bring you happiness. Full of exercises to follow aimed to aid in your happiness.
